十年的伍梅恋

A special dedication specially dedicated to a very special person :3

Sabah Northern: Api-Api - Kinabalu Park - Kundasang

Being a backpacker is indeed exciting and action packed. PAYING CHEAP but LIVING LARGE, which included fun filled trips, adventurous tracks and rides, fatigue caused by too much of walking with that heavy shell, and of course I’ve broaden my horizon, one word, Satisfaction. It wasn’t easy for 2 fresh travelers but luckily we were still doing OK, although there were times we had minor conflicts over some paltry matters. Luckily 60% of the home work was done before we hit the ground running, the remaining part could only be done when we arrived based on our basic instinct. Thanks to the useful Sabah Map, the overrated GPS wasn’t really a necessity after all =p

Kota Kinabalu, namely Api-Api by locals, is a developing city, Terminal 1 of KKIA has the advance structure similar to that of KLIA, surprisingly they also have the same system like KLIA and LCC Terminal, which are the separation of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 for AirAsia. We started our walk to Tanjung Aru once we got off the plane as the transport is quite inconvenient, and we promised not to take cabs unless situation turns from worse to worst. We walked nearly 1.5 km then we caught a mini bus to main Bus Station. 1st thing I realized on the road was the roundabouts, nothing wrong, but there were too plenty of them. Although city buses are cheap to hop on, 50 cents for the whole sector of 5-6 km but they are not accessible to other areas like Likas, Lok Kawi and Penampang. It was really bad transport arrangements outside of the city center. Walking was part of our routine in KK, 2km or 3km, you name it, from walking under the hot sun till under dim moon light. I can tell you how to go about in the city now =p.

Before I can present a whole long collection of pictures taken, I would like to make a clarification that I was merely depending on my Sony T-20 for the whole trip. So the pictures taken might not seem to be impressive, yet I hope you can enjoy reading.

1st location: Jesselton Point Waterfront

Then we headed to the wetland centre which was relatively quiet whereby we were the only visitors, anything could have happened without anyone's notice =s
Wetland with mangroves, deserted and spooky

Then, we headed to 1 Borneo at 5pm and checked into our accommodation. We were so exhausted that we did't go anywhere after that other than grabbed a quick dinner at McD. Food in Sabah was not appealing though its actually not bad. Mayb we're too used to Penang's delicacies =p
The following day we took a minibus to Kinabalu Park in Kundasang, that's where people from all over the world gather to conquer Mt. Kinabalu. It's 88km from KK, uphill.
Bus Station along the hill

Along the way of 88 km there were 20-30 Catholic churches(I rather take it as chapels) along the road!! That was an eye opener 0.0

Inside Kinabalu Park, lodges with chimneys were built to accommodate the hikers.
Mt. Kinabalu track map signboard which has the famous quote "take nothing but photographs, Leave nothing but footprints"

happy 1 year old! we had ourselve a great gift!

Holga...errhh... macam mana nak guna ni bang?

War Memorial Kundasang

This is the cock that made me exclaimed with millions of 'WooWW' along the way... you just can't imagine how high is the tip of the mountain, I'm starting to collect companions to conquer him, anyone? =B

Kundasang village, the spot where a decade ago Fernleaf milk powder advertisement was shot, it wasn't in New Zealand. clever.
Handsome Indegineous boy. To be frank, many of them look real good!

1 Borneo, located near to Malaysia's largest University, UMS. It's also the 1st and largest lifestyle shopping mall in Borneo. Mont Blanc & Roxy are 2 of the Tenants.

Fresh Milk made in Sabah at RM3.89. Not too cheap but tasty

Fishermen's jetty bhind Phillipino Market and Handicraft Centre.

Sea Gypsies, they are lively and always on the move!

Sabah State Museum. Suspension Bridge was part of the fun.

In one of the Long houses

That's the stuffs to expect from city. Of course the Traffic, cars, building, smoke, are the same like any other cities in Malaysia, I have difficulties showing you any of those pictures =p. The next jorney was to Southern Sabah. Stay tuned, the best is yet to come.

Sabah Southern:Tawau - Semporna – myParadise

Due to time constraints, we took a 50 minutes flight from KK to Tawau. If given a chance I would definitely try out the 10 hrs+ bumpy ride from KK to Semporna. After all, my destination was only to Semporna. When we arrived in Tawau Airport it was almost 5pm. It is located in between Semporna and Tawau town. There’re only cabs and hotels’ buses can direct transfer passengers to Semporna. As we neither fall in the mentioned categories, we had to take a bus ride back to Tawau Town then only head to Semporna. It was already dark by the time we reached town, I was highly tensed up not sure whether were there still buses plying between Tawau and Semporna at night. We couldn’t afford to miss going to Semporna by the same night as we had made bookings for the boat transfer the following early morn, besides the security over Tawau was also our main concern. I reckon it was the worst part of my trip here, with the epitome of stomachache+ confusion over bus availability+ bad security.

It was considered a miracle that there was still a final ride to Semporna at 7pm. However, the fare was increased from MYR13 to MYR20 per pax because there were only 4 passengers in the bus. Journey took around 2 hours and it was Heart-Pounding for 120minutes, probably due to the F1 driver who was gearing at 130km/h on the narrow kampong road. I said millions of Hail Mary between clenching teeth and kept on thanking God (with actions) whenever he managed to overtake cars. Can you imagine the speed?

Semporna is a small town, too tiny until I could recognize the roads in 30 minutes by walking around. They have a KFC, few Inns, few roundabouts, bad air, modified cars with loud woofers and many Natives and Caucasians/Backpackers. We checked out from City-Inn at 7am the next day and were fetched by the local ‘modified-Kereta Sapu’ to the nearby jetty. It was cheap to hop on and really convenient, I love it =3 but I still prefer to walk since I’ve recognized the roads now.

It’s boat Transfer time!

Dragon Inn besides Semporna Jetty. If you think this is nice, it's probably you haven't seen my Paradise.

Boat Transfer to my Paradise took 1 hour, that’s the 1st time ever I encountered such strong wave turbulence. The 1st half hour was still ok, everybody was enjoying the ride, snapping here and there, not until the strong waves started to break! all of us were thoroughly wet including my bag which contained electronic gadgets, I am really sad now that my bag has turned into an ugly duckling. But hey, it was quite an experience, was scary but true fun!
Sundeck, is a place to get Tanned. wat a stupid definition =D

It's surprising to realize that there's no crow on this island, just birds like this can be seen. It was just outside my room and wasn't camera shy at all!
